The “Lifescape” series is foremost a celebration of life. Touching on
issues from spirituality to reproduction, they walk a line between the sublime
and the grotesque. They are composed using photographs of natural elements
and a myriad of life forms layered with a UV stable crystal clear polyester resin,
oil paint, and iridescent pigments. In addition to providing a luminous depth to
the work, the resin also functions conceptually, binding the life forms together
in a clear liquid, much like the common binder of all life, water. They show the
living beauty I’ve found, and reflect a universal connectedness.

Scott Griffin is an innovative artist living and working in Savannah,
GA. Originally from rural Tennessee, he received a BFA in painting from
Savannah College of Art and Design in 1992. Traveling often to collect
images and gain inspiration, he was invited and attended an artist residency
in Budapest, Hungary in 2005. He exhibits his works locally, nationally and
internationally. The primary focus of Griffin’s work is the energy of life and
the beauty evident in its ebb and flow. Exploring issues from spirituality to
reproduction, his works navigate a boundary between the sublime and the
grotesque. Through an unusual process utilizing polyester resin, paint,
iridescent pigments, and sometimes photography, he creates luminous work
that both challenges the conventions of painting and celebrates our brief yet
potent existence.
