Social Exchange (original invitation to participate)
Are you tired of that old sweater? How about that shirt you once loved, but never seem to wear? Come recycle with a two-day participatory installation, where viewers are asked to engage in the social process of free trade. You are invited to bring an article of clothing…one, two or three...and trade for something else in the “shop.”
The action of shopping is a cultural pastime for many, yet the action of creating a place where the social exchange occurs becomes a material study as it begins to weave a new social fabric within the context of art.
The gallery will become an installation space of a “shop,” fostering the social sustainable action of recycling great clothing. The concept is to create a space where multiple authorships are created through ambient dialogue. The viewer is self-directed where all actions become performance, emulating a “capitalist model,” yet within the “shop” everything is free and is marked as a free exchange. The work is a social experiment where neighbor meets neighbor in the social construction of a sculpture environment.
The event is two days only. Free to participate.
